Poem: Fluidity

Fluidity, LGBT poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

I want to tell you a tale
Of someone not quite male or female
When I get up each morning
While all the others are still yawning
I am struggling to know
If it’s a girl or boy that will show
It’s because inside my head
Is a mixture of genders instead
Part male, part female, part none
It’s not something i’m choosing for fun
I cannot choose it at all
I just have to get up and stand tall
Knowing a girl is inside
Maybe a boy not wanting to hide
I am not mad or crazy
Not picking a genders not lazy
Some days I really am male
But others so completely female
Most days it’s more of a mix
It’s not a problem I want to fix
Please tell me who does it hurt
If some days I need to wear a skirt
I am open about it
Always happy to talk about it
All I want is to be free
To be whichever I need to be
I feel so lucky to know
My partner loves me whoever shows
My partner does understand
That it’s not something I ever planned
Proud to have her by my side
Now my true self never has to hide

Poem: Fluffy Little Tails

Fluffy little tails, a poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

We have two little Degus, who always chew the bars
To me they don’t look chewy, I’d rather eat a Mars
They like to watch the TV, and sit inside their cage
But if you try to get them, they often squeak with rage
Their fluffy little tails, look almost like a rats
Make sure you keep your Degus, away from friendly cats
We called the first one Louise, Thelma the other one
Some people do not like them, but that is half the fun

Poem: My First True Love

My first true love, a technology poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

At the age of ten, I made a great friend

So was it a Boy, With a cool toy?

Or was it a sweet girl, Doing a pretty twirl?

None of the above, Was my first love

An Acorn Electron, To load my tapes on

So what it was so slow, The warmth of the glow

In front of the screen, Unreal like a dream

Creating the code, Switching the mode

Just 32K, In which to play

Computers don’t care, They’re just software

But that you can trust, Friendships can rust

Ones and zeroes, Digital heroes

It was my friend, Right until its end

Poem: Feeling Alone

Feeling alone, a poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

In my life, I’ve met many people
Why do I, still feel, so alone
In a world, with so many people
Why am I, sitting here, all alone
Walking past, go so many people
How I wish, that I was, safe at home
Looking out, at all these people
Do they all, feel just, as alone?

Poem: Feel The Pain

Feel the pain, a mental health poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Feel the pain, deep inside

Nasty scratches, hard to hide

Feel the pain, is what I need

Cut myself, until I bleed

Feel the pain, I was so blind

Seemed so right, at the time

Feel the pain, I was so wrong

Should have known that, all along

Poem: Exploring The Woods

Exploring the woods, a poem written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Lost in the forest, looking at the trees
Slipping in the mud, hurting my poor knees
Where are we going, do I even know
Weathers getting cold, looks like it could snow
Seemed a good idea, when we first came out
Starting to panic, maybe we should shout
Where I want to be, in the safe and warm
Falling to the ground, now my shirt is torn
Looking all around, I should know this bit
It all looks the same, wish that I could quit
Finally I see, path back to my home
Just round the corner, wish that I had known

Poem: Evil People Around Us

Evil people around us, a poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Sometimes in this life, told the truth must be
Of all the bad times, set those secrets free
Show them who is boss, the power of the word
Shout it out at them, make sure the whole world heard
Make them feel the shame, of evil they have done
Have faith in yourself, your not the only one
Let them feel the pain, and sadness you went through
Make them understand, the wrong they did to you.
A child is a gift, not something to abuse
Someone to protect, not someone you can use
There is no excuse, no reason they can give
What they did is wrong, something’s you can’t forgive

Poem: Eh Ju Kay Shon

Eh ju kay Shon, a poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Always moving, Never improving

It made me blue, I was always new

Never fitting in, Could never win

Felt so left out, Life full of doubt

Thought I was thick, Was always off sick

Sick of that place, My unfitting face

Felt such a fool, That was school

Poem: Derailed Train Of Thought

Derailed train of thought, a mental health poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

My mind is a scary place to be,

It’s a place nobody wants to see.

I have spent most of my life in there,

Hiding from a world that doesn’t care.

My mind is a lonely place to be,

Nobody here can understand me.

The conflict of light and dark inside.

A battle from which I cannot hide,

My mind is a deadly place to be,

The voices inside want to hurt me.

They are trapped and can never escape,

So they try to poison me with hate.

My mind is a random place to be,

Voices always try to confuse me.

The quest to focus has always failed,

My train of thought has been derailed.

My mind is a noisy place to be,

A whirlwind of voices surrounds me.

Only music can block them all out,

It protects me when they scream and shout.

My mind is a dark prison for me,

No way for me to ever be free.

I don’t want to go out of my mind,

As a way back I might never find.

My mind is the only place for me,

The place I still always want to be.

A strange place that I can call my home.

Where I can sit proud upon my throne.

Poem: Crowds All Around Me

Crowds all around me, a mental health poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Crowds getting bigger, closing all around

Bumping into me, feel like I am bound

People everywhere, trying hard to breath

Trying to escape, wish that I could leave

I start to panic, forcing my way through

Where are you baby, looking round for you

There near in the crowd, you look so alone

Bang comes from the road, a firework thrown

Moving down the streets, pushing through the crowd

Flashes from the sky, that was really loud

Someone kicks my leg, nearly makes me fall

Hit them with my crutch, rude words I do call

They spin round and kick, that one really hard

I go to grab him, I will mark his card

Voice from behind me, “He is autistic”

Lad turns round in tears, god I feel so thick

I was just trying, to defend myself

I am not nasty, work in mental health

I feel so sorry, I was in such pain

Crowds all around me, messing with my brain
