Poem: A Poem For My Birthday

Poem for my birthday, this poetry was created in the early hours of the 16th of February 2020, my 46th birthday

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Another year, has come, and gone,

To me this one, has felt, so long.

This was the year, my heart, went wrong,

One day I hope, I will, feel strong.

One year older, some how, I got,

Help from my friends, I’ve not, forgot.

Hidden away, not left, to rot,

It’s been by choice, needed, a lot.

Toxic people, have gone, away,

Have no regrets, no words, to say.

Helen with me, I’ll be, okay,

Keeping me safe, there night, and day.

To the future, I try, to see,

What will happen, what will, I be.

Want to create, my mind, let free,

Good year for me, twenty, twenty.

Poem: Not Going Mad This Christmas

Not going mad this Christmas, a slightly different Christmas poem about mental health

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

I’m not going mad this Christmas,

I heard the woman say

It was a rather strange thing,

I heard the other day

Some people always comment,

they say the strangest stuff

Do they even understand,

the world can be quite tough

I know she meant the presents,

to sit under her tree

But many people out there,

are just like you and me

The only difference being,

this year they will go mad

For some Christmas is happy,

for others it is sad

Christmas for them just can be,

a lonely day and night

So check on everybody,

and make sure they’re alright

Poem: Normality

Normality, a self reflective mental health poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

So what is normal, and what if it’s not

What is normal like, I think I forgot

Live my life for me, not part of some plot

Looking so different, I’m not hard to spot

My mind open wide, don’t want it to rot

Open to changes, I listen a lot

Expanding my mind, ideas that I’ve got

Normal is average, I guess that I’m not

Poem: Goodbye EU

Goodbye EU, a political poem about the United Kingdom leaving the European Union by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

We are going to leave, our place in the EU.

It is hard to believe, but sadly it is true.

The journey has been hard, and it’s cost us so much.

MP’s were caught off guard, they are so out of touch.

Getting Brexit done soon, was all they cared about,

Blond haired bumbling buffoon, all that he did was shout.

Both sides told many lies, the numbers on a bus,

Affecting all our lives, did not know who to trust.

I voted to remain, but more voted to leave,

Some ideas in their brain, things they want to achieve.

We will get blue passports, we will take back control,

We’ve seen the news reports, about border patrol.

No more ruled by Brussels, now just run by Tories,

I trust them even less, full of fairy stories.

The Sun and Daily Mail, helped to spread all the lies,

They told you made up tails, just loads of porky pies.

Now we will deal with Trump, and sell the NHS,

Become a bigger dump, not much of a success.

They take our rights away, the things that should protect,

Boris just followed May, but Corbyn did object.

Need to come together, not time to be afraid,

We support each other, we give each other aid.

Need a united place, do not need to divide

We’re all the human race, the same on the inside

Poem: Mindfulness

Mindfulness, a mental health poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

I thought I’d try mindfulness, for my mind full of stress

I knew I needed some help, but my mind was a mess

Did I think it would help me, not really I confess

I found it quite hard to do, with my pain in excess

It made me look inside me, slow my breathing process

It made me look around me, to see with new sharpness

Working to improve myself, emotional wellness

Did it make a difference, did it help me, big yes!

Poem: Maybe I Am Going Mad

Maybe I am going mad, a mental health poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

I think that I am going mad,

I don’t recall my name

I think I must be going mad,

I really feel insane

I really know I’m going mad,

hear voices in my brain

So maybe I am going mad,

but maybe you’re the same!

Poem: Lurking In The Darkness

Lurking in the darkness, a poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Walking down the darkened hall,
I hear a spooky sound
Approach another corner,
do I dare go round

The darkness all around me,
can barely see a thing
What awaits me round the bend,
what will the next turn bring

I rush around the corner,
and see a ghostly face
I cannot see the details,
my heart begins to race

Feeling round I find a switch,
I turn it on to see
On the wall an old mirror,
the face in it is me

Poem: Light From Another World

Light from another world, a poem about aliens by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

The lights up in the sky, they shine down on my face

Not from this world of ours, from deep in outer space

I bet they are so smart, not like the human race

They look down on our world, observe from a safe place

Study the way we live, create a database

How often do the come, our fields do they deface

And if you try to tell, they call you a nutcase

I wish I could go too, vanish across subspace

Poem: Life Of A Snowflake

Life of a snowflake, a Christmas poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Frozen water drop, falling from the sky.

Slowly drifting down, from the clouds so high.

No two flakes that fall, are ever the quite same.

Gliding through the air, floating like a flame.

Down towards the Earth, oh where will it land.

On a Christmas tree? In a small boys hand?

No such luck this time, landed on a car.

Speeding down the road, did not travel far.

Windscreen wipers on, snow pushed to the side.

Falling to the floor, nowhere left to hide.

Disappearing now, vanished down the drain.

Floating to the sea, with the fallen rain.

Then another day, back into the sky.

Up into the clouds, how it loves to fly.

On a winters day, time to fall again.

Something fun this time, please not down the drain.

Scooped up as it lands, made into a ball.

See a smiling face, hear a young boy call.

Children gather round, see the man of snow.

Now its feels a part, never wants to go.
