Poem: Crowds All Around Me

Crowds all around me, a mental health poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Crowds getting bigger, closing all around

Bumping into me, feel like I am bound

People everywhere, trying hard to breath

Trying to escape, wish that I could leave

I start to panic, forcing my way through

Where are you baby, looking round for you

There near in the crowd, you look so alone

Bang comes from the road, a firework thrown

Moving down the streets, pushing through the crowd

Flashes from the sky, that was really loud

Someone kicks my leg, nearly makes me fall

Hit them with my crutch, rude words I do call

They spin round and kick, that one really hard

I go to grab him, I will mark his card

Voice from behind me, “He is autistic”

Lad turns round in tears, god I feel so thick

I was just trying, to defend myself

I am not nasty, work in mental health

I feel so sorry, I was in such pain

Crowds all around me, messing with my brain

Poem: The Concept Of Happiness

The concept of happiness, a poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Happiness means different things,
to different people
What can fill one person with joy,
doesn’t always please all
The media tells you to buy,
things they claim give you smiles
The only person that’s grinning,
counts their money in piles
Money doesn’t make you happy,
and nor does loads of stuff
All that will happen in the end,
is that payday will be tough
What will truly make you happy,
what really makes your days
Spending time with friends and family,
feeling the sunshines rays
Do the things that make you happy,
enjoy it while you can
While thinking about the future,
have a flexible plan
Don’t worry about the others,
live your life for yourself
Find what matters deep inside you,
don’t worry about wealth
Find someone that makes you happy,
just find that special one
Someone that makes you feel so safe,
someone that makes life fun

Poem: Colours Of My Life

Colours of my life, a poem by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

Green, colour of life, so fresh and new
Red, blood flows so deep, deep within you
Blue, how I do feel, life full of doubt
Pink, my flesh so weak, mind so worn out
Black, my mood can be, so full of pain
White, future unknown, random like rain

Poem: Being free to be me

Being Free To Be Me, an LGBT / Mental health poem

Written by Daphne Tore / Dean Thorpe

I am me,

I will always be me,

nobody I’d rather be than me

I am free,

I don’t need any key,

to be whatever I want to be

They see me,

people always judge me,

I am not what I appear to be

Drink some tea,

or have a chat with me,

think whatever you want about me

Look and see,

most don’t really know me,

so try to really understand me

I will be,

whatever I will be,

doesn’t matter if they accept me

Come with me,

so we can all be free,

to live our lives how we want to be

Just be free,

you are free to just be,

you can be you and I can be me!
